ATEXEU ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU: equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres
EU legal requirement for equipment used where flammable gas, vapour or dust may be present. Equipment must be certified for the zone and gas group of the area where it is used.
Reading the marking: Ex symbol, Group II (surface industry), category 1 (Zone 0/20), 2 (Zone 1/21) or 3 (Zone 2/22), G gas or D dust. Protection concept, e.g. Ex ia (intrinsic safety), Ex d (flameproof), Ex e (increased safety). Gas group IIA, IIB, IIC (IIC most demanding, includes hydrogen). Temperature class T1-T6 (T6 lowest surface temperature).
IECExIEC System for certification to standards relating to equipment for use in explosive atmospheres
International certification scheme based on the IEC 60079 series; certificates can be checked on the IECEx online database. Many Middle East authorities accept IECEx or ATEX certification.
Reading the marking: Uses the same Ex marking as ATEX, e.g. Ex ia IIC T4 Ga, with Equipment Protection Level Ga/Gb/Gc.
