Buying guide
Emergency equipment is used rarely but must work immediately. Selection should be based on the site's emergency response plan, foreseeable injuries and the time for professional help to arrive.
01
Identify scenarios such as chemical exposure, cardiac arrest, falls, confined space incidents and severe bleeding, and select equipment accordingly.
02
Use ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 or EN 15154 for eyewash and showers, BS 8599-1 for first aid kits, IEC 60601-2-4 for AEDs and EN 1865 for stretchers.
03
Equipment must be reachable quickly, such as eyewash within about 10 seconds of a chemical hazard. Signs (ISO 7010) help people find it.
04
Heat affects water temperature in showers, battery life in AEDs and the shelf life of first aid supplies. Choose equipment with suitable temperature ranges.
05
Check equipment regularly and train responders in its use.
