Buying guide
First aid kits and AEDs must be sized and stocked for the number of people, the hazards and the distance from medical help. BS 8599-1 and IEC 60601-2-4 are common reference standards.
Choose BS 8599-1 kits by size and risk level. Add specialist kits for burns, eye injuries or severe bleeding where those hazards exist.
Use BS 8599-2 kits for vehicles, especially for remote site travel.
AEDs should be easy to use, with clear prompts and pads for adults and children. Check pad and battery expiry dates.
Store kits and AEDs within their temperature range; heat shortens the life of dressings and batteries.
Check kits monthly and restock after use.
