Buying guide
Gas detection protects people from toxic, flammable and oxygen-deficient atmospheres. The choice of sensors, alarm levels and certification depends on the gases present and the hazardous area classification.
01
List all gases that may be present, such as H2S, CO, flammable hydrocarbons and oxygen deficiency. Select sensor types for each, considering cross-sensitivity and poisoning.
02
Detectors must be certified for the hazardous area (ATEX or IECEx, e.g. Ex ia IIC T4) and for performance (EN 60079-29-1, EN 45544, EN 50104).
03
Set alarm thresholds based on exposure limits and site procedures, for example 10% LEL and 20% LEL for flammable gas.
04
High temperatures, humidity and dust affect sensors and batteries. Check operating ranges and protect fixed detectors from direct sun.
05
Plan regular bump tests and calibration with certified gas (ISO 6141), and keep records.
