Buying guide
Fixed gas detection monitors process areas, plant rooms and perimeters continuously, providing alarms and automatic actions. System design must account for gas properties, layout, airflow and the required safety integrity.
Catalytic or infrared sensors for flammable gas, electrochemical sensors for toxic gas, and open-path infrared (EN 60079-29-4) for perimeters and large areas.
Place detectors according to gas density and likely leak sources: low for heavy gases, high for light gases such as hydrogen. A gas dispersion study helps for large sites.
Where detectors form part of a safety function, specify SIL capability (IEC 61508 SIL 2) and EN 50271 compliance.
Detectors must be certified for the zone (e.g. Ex d flameproof). Use sunshades, weather protection and dust guards in hot outdoor locations.
Calibrate fixed detectors at manufacturer intervals using calibration adapters, and check sensor life.
