| Standards | EN 14387; EN 143 |
EN 14387Respiratory protective devices: gas filters and combined filters
Covers gas and vapour filters for masks. The filter type must match the contaminant, and filters have a finite capacity, so a change-out schedule is needed.
Reading the marking: A (brown) organic vapours boiling above 65 °C; B (grey) inorganic gases e.g. chlorine, H2S; E (yellow) acid gases e.g. SO2; K (green) ammonia; AX (brown) low-boiling organics; Hg-P3, NO-P3. Capacity class 1, 2 or 3 (largest). Combined filters add a P rating, e.g. ABEK1-P3.
EN 143Respiratory protective devices: particle filters
Covers particle filters fitted to half and full face masks.
Reading the marking: P1 (low), P2 (medium) and P3 (high efficiency); R = reusable, NR = single shift. Particle filters are coded white.
