EN 388 — Protective gloves against mechanical risks
Rates gloves for abrasion, cut, tear and puncture, with optional impact protection. Compare the digits against the task rather than choosing the highest rating by default, as high cut levels usually reduce dexterity.
Reading the marking: Four digits then a letter, e.g. 4X43E: abrasion 0-4, coup-test cut 0-5 (X = not tested or not applicable), tear 0-4, puncture 0-4, then ISO 13997 cut level A-F (F highest). A sixth character P = passed the knuckle impact test.
ANSI/ISEA 105 — American National Standard for hand protection classification
US classification for glove cut, puncture, abrasion and other properties. The cut scale is the one most often used in specifications.
Reading the marking: Cut levels A1 to A9 based on grams of cutting load (A1 lowest, A9 highest).
