• EN 388 — Protective gloves against mechanical risks

  Rates gloves for abrasion, cut, tear and puncture, with optional impact protection. Compare the digits against the task rather than choosing the highest rating by default, as high cut levels usually reduce dexterity.

  Reading the marking: Four digits then a letter, e.g. 4X43E: abrasion 0-4, coup-test cut 0-5 (X = not tested or not applicable), tear 0-4, puncture 0-4, then ISO 13997 cut level A-F (F highest). A sixth character P = passed the knuckle impact test.

• EN 420 — Protective gloves: general requirements (superseded by EN ISO 21420)

  The previous general requirements standard for gloves. Products still marked EN 420 meet the older edition; new certifications refer to EN ISO 21420.
