EN 407Protective gloves and other hand protection against thermal risks
Rates gloves for heat and flame. The contact heat digit is the most useful for handling hot parts.
Reading the marking: Six digits, each 0-4 or X: limited flame spread, contact heat (1 = 100 °C, 2 = 250 °C, 3 = 350 °C, 4 = 500 °C for 15 s), convective heat, radiant heat, small splashes of molten metal, large quantities of molten metal.
EN 388Protective gloves against mechanical risks
Rates gloves for abrasion, cut, tear and puncture, with optional impact protection. Compare the digits against the task rather than choosing the highest rating by default, as high cut levels usually reduce dexterity.
Reading the marking: Four digits then a letter, e.g. 4X43E: abrasion 0-4, coup-test cut 0-5 (X = not tested or not applicable), tear 0-4, puncture 0-4, then ISO 13997 cut level A-F (F highest). A sixth character P = passed the knuckle impact test.
