Fire Fighting & Fire Protection
Buying guide
Fixed suppression systems control or extinguish fires automatically in high-risk or unattended areas. The agent and components must match the hazard and the approved system design.
Sprinklers suit most buildings; foam suits flammable liquids; clean agents (NFPA 2001, ISO 14520) protect electrical and data rooms; wet chemical systems (NFPA 17A, UL 300) protect kitchens; condensed aerosol (ISO 15779) suits enclosures.
Specify the temperature rating, response type, K-factor and orientation (EN 12259-1). In hot roof spaces, use a higher temperature rating to avoid unwanted activation.
Use EN 1568-3 foam for hydrocarbons and EN 1568-4 alcohol-resistant foam for polar solvents. Check compatibility with existing proportioners and storage temperature limits.
Replacement components must be approved for the existing system; mixing parts from different systems can invalidate approvals.
Foam concentrates need periodic testing; clean agent cylinders need weighing and pressure checks; sprinklers need inspection for corrosion and paint.
