Fire Fighting & Fire Protection
Buying guide
Hose reels and hydrant hoses give a continuous water supply for firefighting by trained occupants and the fire brigade. Components must match the water supply pressure, coupling type and local fire code.
EN 671-1 hose reels with semi-rigid hose can be used by one person without fully unrolling. Specify hose length and diameter to reach all parts of the protected area.
Lay-flat hoses (EN 14540) must match the coupling system used by the local fire service, such as instantaneous or Storz. Specify diameter, length and working pressure.
Branchpipes (EN 15182) with jet and spray settings and shut-off give control and protect the user from heat. Landing valves for risers should match BS 5041-1 or the local equivalent.
Outdoor cabinets should be weather-resistant, sun-protected and corrosion-resistant (stainless steel or coated). Store hoses out of direct sun, as UV and heat crack hose linings.
Hose reels should be inspected and flow-tested annually, and lay-flat hoses checked for damage and pressure-tested at intervals set by the local code.
