Buying guide
Safety signs communicate hazards, prohibitions, mandatory actions, fire equipment locations and escape routes. ISO 7010 pictograms make the message clear across languages; material and size decide whether the sign is still legible after years on site.
ISO 7010 defines the symbols and colours: red circle for prohibition, yellow triangle for warning, blue circle for mandatory, green for safe condition and red square for fire equipment. Using the registered symbol, such as W012 for electricity, avoids ambiguity.
Supporting text should be short and in the languages of the workforce, for example English and Arabic. Keep wording consistent across the site.
Choose sign size by the maximum viewing distance; larger signs are needed in warehouses, yards and on roads. ISO 3864-1 gives guidance on the relationship between size and distance.
Outdoor signs in strong sun need UV-resistant inks and laminates on aluminium or rigid plastic. Self-adhesive vinyl suits indoor use; photoluminescent material suits escape routes.
Use a single pipe marking scheme across the site, such as ASME A13.1 or BS 1710, with flow-direction arrows and contents named.
